66/100 - "Cover up, lay bare"

66/100 - "Cover up, lay bare"

I've seen this trend of South Korean women, rebelling against the impossible beauty ideals in their country by cutting up their lipsticks and destroying their makeup collections. It makes me wonder occasionally how many restrictions women still face nowadays. How much skin we should in order to be deemed beautiful, how much we should cover up as to not attract predators. How to style our hair and paint our faces, how to walk and talk and how to share opinions. Please in a non-threatening demeanor and with a bit of doe eye. I've never fallen into the cute, helpless category. I've always been assertive and been described as strong more often than not. I like makeup, as I like all forms of paint and color. I like dying my hair and building my own form of beauty by depicting outfits the way I paint a picture. I like making myself into a work of art most days for my own pleasure. What those women are rebelling against however is what 100 years ago women rebelled against when burning their corsets. The need to do all these things in order to achieve what our male counterparts do without all that hassle. A job, a partner, a loan, a promotion, to be taken seriously even... It all boils down to our ability to maintain our desirability in order to achieve our goals. And I wonder if it takes 100 years more to get a step further.
