You know I love living in big cities 🌃 but I do miss looking at the stars at night. The most spectacular view I ever had was when I did an artist’s residency in the tiniest village in the middle of nowhere and for the first time ever, I got dizzy just looking at the night sky ✨

When you stand at a precipice and are about to jump, do you expect to fly or do you think you‘ll fall? Even though I‘ve always started out falling after expecting being able to fly, I caught myself and learned to use my wings. I wasn‘t always good at flying, but I always managed to stay in the air.
What about you? Are you flying or falling or still figuring it out?
Be strong. Even if you feel weak it. Show up. Even if you want to hide. Follow your dreams. Even when you are followed by nightmares. You have the power. You decide what your life looks like. You decide your worth. I’m not saying it’s easy. I’m not saying everything will change by tomorrow because you stand up for yourself today. Start taking steps towards the person you want to be and don’t look at what anyone else is doing. Just concentrate on yourself and becoming the best version if yourself. If you’re scared out of your mind? You’re on the right path. You got this.

I would sleep 8 hours every night and after breakfast, fall back asleep.
I couldn’t move. Felt heavy. Brainfog was my constant companion. I tried to rest. Tried to push through. Ended my days with migraines in dark rooms.
Only jolts of panic would get me out of freeze and into survival mode.
My battery was running on near empty, and my charger broken.
All life felt like it leaked out of me.
Not to sound all bleak, but that was me for the past 18 months.
I tried not to let it show. Not to fall off the face of the earth. I don’t know if I managed.
Also, not sure I want to make myself this vulnerable by sharing this.
But I wouldn’t be writing this and sure as hell wouldn’t have been able to paint this if I didn’t find a way to get better.
“Purging Darkness” feels like an accurate representation not necessarily of what I’ve been going through, but of what it looks like when you've made it to the other side.
Darkness makes the smallest ember shine brighter.

It’s so easy sometimes, to get lost in what everybody else is doing. To compare where you are to where others are. But I have found what works for everyone else doesn’t necessarily work for me. I can’t look to others for how to get where I want to go because no one has ever walked that path in my shoes. That is scary and freeing at the same time. I don’t have to do things I don’t want to do just because everybody else is doing them. But I also have to come up with my own ideas, my own plan, to get to that elusive mountain top. I have to make my own way.

I can think best at night. When the world around me is asleep and there is nothing disturbing my reverie. Getting lost in your own thoughts. Finding solutions that would make you scoff in daylight. I love to make plans, set goals, and create step-by-step systems to reach them. This is who I am and what makes me me. I am the girl with a plan. I am the girl with 10’000 lists that are color coded. And at the same time, I believe in miracles. I believe that things can happen the way I want them to without “knowing” how they will happen. Without a master plan. Without a roadmap to guide me. Between hustle and surrender. Between working hard and leaning back.

In the past women would ingest Belladonna, also called deadly nightshade, in order to make their pupils larger and look more appealing. Never mind that the plant is highly poisonous. Comparing this behavior to today’s beauty industry practices leaves the question…did we learn anything?

I love to think the world is more magical than it appears to the naked eye. Like spotting glimmers in everyday life I am also looking for the otherness, for synchronicities and the unexplainable.
When I was a teenager I would read books about witchcraft and rituals. Later those became books about manifesting and the law of attraction.
I have hidden a tiny bit of magic in each of these paintings.
Hopefully, this painting encourages you too to look for the magic in your life

One of my reels just hit half a million views in a matter of days and with it came new eyes on my art.
🍰 Lovely new followers and people brimming with excitement having found my feed. If you are one of them, welcome. Lovely to have you. Grab some cake!
🪨 But it also means random folk who don‘t usually follow art accounts like mine, showed up. Leaving behind unsolicited opinions, and generally trying to be the impersonation of a pebble in someone else‘s shoe.
☀️ I have always been very lucky to have an overwhelmingly supportive and positive experience on social media. Kind and loving people like you who support and cheer me on.
To keep it that way I have also always been quite liberal with the block button.
✍️ If there are young artists reading this, know that mean comments say more about the person commenting than you. And celebrate every hater and naysayer you get because it means your work is getting seen. You can‘t please everyone, so focus on the people who love your work as much as you and ignore the rest.
✨ Let‘s all stay gloriously unbothered. And thriving.

I had to change school because we moved when I was 8 or 9. And at the new school I didn‘t have the easiest time. Kids played pranks on me, girls pretended to be my friends only to talk badly behind my back. Some of the boys would even wait after school for me to shout taunts and kick me. I was so severely bullied I internalized that something must be wrong with me.
It took a while. And a very nurturing kind friend to help me be ok with who I am.
I tend to always see the positive in any given situation and while that time in my life was awful I am proud of who I have become and how it shaped me.
And this painting might just help you accept yourself for the wonderful person you are.

Buttercream texture and vibrant pigments make one delicious painting. The richness of it all makes me giddy. I’ve always been scolded by my mum how abundantly I overfilled my cereal bowl which was constantly in danger of overflowing or that I should rather go twice instead of carrying so many books, pens, and nicknacks that I would drop things along my way and while picking them back up, would drop even more.
Looking back, I never was afraid of abundance.

Sometimes at night I stand in front of my floor-length windows and look out into the never-sleeping city of Seoul feeling absolutely content. I think that’s one of the reasons I fell in love with this city. The other day I couldn‘t fall asleep and got up again with an idea to continue this painting. If I showed you a before picture you wouldn‘t believe that it was the same canvas, I transformed it so radically. Just before midnight, I finished. Hence the name.

When I was a kid I always dreamed of having a rich history of ancestry, maybe my family used to be royal and I was a princess without even knowing. I thought about the heirlooms that would have been passed down the generations and loved playing with my grandmother‘s jewelry even though it was more on the contemporary side. I loved jewels tones and the pretty stones with all the colors. Now, as an adult, I still adore pretty necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings. I hardly leave the house without them anymore. It is one more way of adding color to my life 💙

This piece is the darkest of all the paintings in this series. It's moody and unapologetic but also romantic in it's yearning.

This piece reminds me of one of my favorite painters of the Romantic era, Caspar David Friedrich. How he would depict people on the edge of a precipice, turned away from the viewer, gaze going towards the middle of the painting. It evokes a sense of longing in you, just how some words need to be spoken in order to satisfy the urge of untold truths.

This painting reminds me of a crystallized cave. At the same time though crystallized can mean sugar-coated and while a lot of things in Seoul look beautiful they are made to perfection, too sweet, too bad for your health. It’s an analogy of beauty and its side effects. It’s pretty, but is it good for you?

Looking at this piece is bittersweet. It makes me feel torn. It reminds me of all the dark times in my life, but at the same time, the growth that resulted from them. The light and new that came with each hurdle I had crossed.

I do get introspective more often than not. I reflect on my own behaviour, how I treat others, how others perceive me, how I want to be perceived. How to set my best food forward but also be true to myself and my inner values. I try to be honest with myself and when I feel greedy, haughty, arrogant even, acknowledge it. Find out where it stems from and wether I want to a be a person like that or not. If my behaviour fits with the idea I have of my own person. If it’s still a reflection of my own ideals.

When I was small I loved roller coasters with a passion. The acceleration, the loops, the feeling of your stomach dropping. Pure heaven to me. Then, I didn‘t get to go to amusement parks for a couple of years and suddenly, I wasn‘t fearless anymore. The height was too much, the speed too fast, the force pressing me into my seat too strong, and it all felt completely unsafe and overwhelming. I missed the unbridled joy I used to experience and didn‘t understand how it could turn on me and change like that. I felt betrayed. These days I still love going on rollercoasters but I have a very low tolerance now and when I accidentally cross that line it is equal parts exhilaration and fear. I am still trying to reacquaint myself with the excitement I used to feel. little by little. What are you missing from your younger years?

Have you ever heard that you shouldn’t want something? That you should be happy with what you have and not dream all the time? Do you feel like big goals are for other people, but not for you? Does it feel sometimes like wanting more makes you a bad person? Because I disagree. We want things for a reason. We dream big for a reason. If it wasn’t possible we wouldn’t have the urge to go after it. And if it wasn’t supposed to be in our life, why do we find it attractive in the first place? Go get it ✨ NOW

Even though I’m wandering, not necessarily in a straight line, towards my goal, I am still learning so much. Just a person. Learning what I can endure. Finding out that this is my path and allwoing myself to make mistakes and grow. Growing despite of yourself, almost.

When I was freaking out about putting my self-portrait on an entire series, I had this little voice in my had, saying: „TRUST YOURSELF“. You had this idea for a reason. Go with the flow. For this particular collection of paintings, it was the right thing to do and I am so glad I trusted myself enough to do it. It’s a reminder for whenever you start doubting yourself, „No. Your intuition is right“, trust yourself, there is a reason. Even if it feels a little uncomfortable.

That question came up again and again for me. So many things in life don’t get done because you talk yourself out of them or your think you have „rational“ reasons not to go through with them. I don’t want to live my life based on my fears. I want to live my life based on what makes me happy and fulfills me and makes the people around me happy. This piece serves as a reminder to you and to myself to make decisions based on what you want, not on what you fear.

As long as I can remember I planned ahead. I would set a goal, make lists, and put deadlines into my calendar. Whenever something bad happened it wouldn't take me long to come up with a plan to make it better. When my friends struggled I would be there to listen and then coach them through it. I am always solution oriented. Never short of ideas. And filled to the brim with an unusual dose of optimism. I put in the thought and then I put in the work. I am ready to do my part. Just because I have a plan though, doesn't mean I always reach my goals. It never stops me from dreaming bigger and going higher. And making the next plan.
„I have a plan“

If you missed out on “Cygnus”, this is the perfect opportunity. I love this piece so much. It has all my favorite colors, is wonderfully dark without any use of black, and feels mysterious and magical to me. And is also an excellent reminder when things look bleak, that this too shall pass.
I painted this piece simply to see if I could. Inspired by the original “Cygnus“ painting, I recreated the theme in 2024 to capture the magic of hope once more.
Painting (made 2024) - acrylic on canvas, 116,8x80,3cm (~45.6x31.5“)

Do you know that scene in Disney‘s Aladdin? Right before the ✨magic carpet ride✨? He asks her a simple question. „Do you trust me?“. And I‘m wondering. As a child, I would have screamed „YES“ and hoped on that flying carpet. Today? „No thank you, random handsome stranger, that doesn‘t look very safe to me. Also, I don‘t like heights.“ 🫠 Just imagine the fun we‘re missing out on by being sensible and „adult“ like that. I want to find my way back to enthusiastic YESes and get rid of skeptic NOes for good. Who is ready for a magic carpet ride in 2023 🙋♀️

I re-watched “Howls moving castle” the other day and it might subconsciously have inspired this piece 🔥 Who else uses Ghibli movies like comfort food?

This painting makes me feel brave and determined to succeed in the world, no matter the odds. To change and rearrange my life until I am satisfied. What does it make you feel?
The soundtrack of Broadway's "Hamilton" is on a constant loop in my studio. The song "My Shot" inspired me to paint this new work as part of an ongoing series inspired by music.
120x160x3.8cm, acrylic on canvas, comes to you signed (on the side) and unstretched, on loose canvas (you need to let it be stretched on canvas bars by a local framer) due to its size.

I knew when I painted this one, that magic just happened. I put the brush to the canvas and it just flowed out of me. I loved every single stage of it. Using a brush in addition to my normal technique gave me the freedom to explore new marks and also took the fear of perfection away. Painting with a tool I’m not entirely used to, made me „FEARLESS“. I didn’t fear perfection anymore, I didn’t fear failure anymore. Whatever your doing, have this piece in your corner to be a reminder to take the plunge, use your 20 seconds of courage, and crush your anxiety. Be fearless.

This phrase is so beautiful to me. Full of clarity, simplicity, tenacity.
It’s something we should tell ourselves every single day. „NEVERTHELESS SHE PERSISTED“: a new religion and a way of life. If you decide to live with just one concept in your head it should be this: persistence, against all odds. Sometimes you just need that reminder that other people weathered way worse things than you are going through right now and they pulled through and they are glorious for it. You can survive this. This piece is a visual anchor for you that you can do it, that you are not alone.

Whenever you can’t make it work, fail to keep swimming, you pick yourself up again. When something doesn’t work out the way you expected. You can fail, you can fall, you can make a mistake, just get back up again, book it as a learning experience and keep at it, change a few things and try again.

Nymphaea - also known as waterlily is a flower that graces our lakes and ponds with a dark mystery underneath the surface. It's roots spread out mercilessly until it strangled all other life forms of that particular water source. The beautiful blossoms we adore are but the tip of the iceberg.

Inspired by Tim Gunn’s catchphrase from Project Runway. Keep at it, do not give up, continue, see where it leads you. Really straight forwardd. It is what it says.

Flow- my favorite state. When you are so immersed in what you’re doing that you forget everything around you! This is when things start to happen. Leaving the flow is almost like waking up from a trance. Since I am a very thought heavy person, being in the flow helps me to connect to my emotions on a whole different level, without my head interfering.

Day 5 Painting 5
I never know how to answer that question. “Good“ feels disingenuous, disengaged, almost bored. And to say “Amazing!“ I’d have to actually feel like it, I don’t want to lie even though it’s just a polite greeting that doesn’t necessarily require more context. But saying anything like “So, so“ or “Eh…“ opens the floor for concerned questions I might not want to answer. The crazy thing in our society though is, if I say “Busy.“ Everyone nods understandingly. “Ah, she must be tired but doing well.“. Being busy is a pledge many wear with pride. I use it too, but only to deflect, never to describe my actual state, my inner landscape. Not to be dramatic but if you really want to know how I am doing right now? Look at the painting.
„How are you doing?“

Walking at Han River at night, moon shining above me, water lapping at the shore. I get my best ideas around witching hour near water. Come and join me.

I keep creating portals.
I would love to be able to step through my paintings into a fantasy. Escaping the day to day and just resting between fields of flowers, listening to the birds. Or like a mermaid at the bottom of the ocean, looking up at the sunlight dancing above the surface of the waves.
Where would this portal lead, do you think?

Rather than fighting the current or paddling toward shore, it explores the moment of being all alone out at sea. The quiet realisation that nobody is coming to save you and the choice to sink or swim.
You have done this for so long, been lost at sea so many times, it almost feels like home now. You are no longer drowning, because you have learned to transform, to adapt, to evolve.
Who would have known you could learn to breathe underwater. The freedom, the euphoria, the quiet knowledge that no matter what happens next, you'll be alright.
This painting includes themes of learning to adapt in difficult environments, surviving one transformation after another, being reborn like Venus from the ocean mist, eternally pivoting, constantly at capacity, but never breaking, no matter how high the intensity life throws at you. This artwork speaks about quiet resilience, inner strength, and most of all, hope.
“I'm not drowning. I can breathe underwater.”

Seeing stars at night is almost as precious as this gold leaf for me as a city dweller. I am drawn to the moon and stars and prefer to go for my walks at night. The rare glimpses of starlight I catch are very dear to me.
Do you see a lot of stars where you live? Or do you have to hang painted ones too?
“Speckled Starlight”

A look across a room. A pause, A slight shift in posture. Eye contact that sizzles along your nerves. That makes you feel shy and look down.
How elusive, yet fascinating this language is. The moment before the first words. The liminal space between awareness and connection. How hard it can be to just say hi.
Tension that is fun and nerve-wracking. Your body that betrays you by blushing. Sweaty palms giving you away.
It is much easier to paint these feelings than to actually make eye contact and smile at a stranger.
"Compelling Communication" is part of my “Seoul Searching“ series

Yesterday I had a very short night thanks to an especially brutal migraine attack that followed me into my dreams. I had one last dose of the German painkillers that are the only thing that help me in this sort of situation and lay there in the dark with an ice pack on my forehead, waiting for the pain to fade.
I wasn’t able to fall asleep, so I let my mind wander. And out of the dark, pale pink appeared. Luminous rose petals surrounded by deep, luscious green.
I used to get these images sometimes when my mind was idle. But it has been so long since I could even think about painting, my entire being utterly consumed by just surviving the pain. One breath at a time.
With the colors appearing so clearly in my head, I noticed I could move without a spike of pain. Without throbbing or pounding. The light from the window no longer hurt my eyes. I didn’t stop to think or marvel. I just got up and went to my easel. Barely thankful for the reprieve, only focused on bringing my vision to life. To see if I could paint something as good as it was in my mind’s eye.
This painting feels like my first quiet return to the studio.
I don’t know if this means I’m back yet. But for this moment I am just grateful, color found me again.

It speaks to moments when continuing is not a choice made through optimism or strength. Forward movement can exist without certainty, motivation, or reassurance. Carried instead by an inner refusal to disappear.
