I took acting classed when I grew up (because I wanted to be a world-famous actress, obviously) and the one coach we had once said: "Watch, don't judge". And she explained that when we are out and about, living our lives, we should watch the people around us. How they act, speak, move, dress, laugh, without judging a single thing. And this is so much harder than I thought. I didn't realize that I reacted to most people by instantly judging their actions. Just watching, observing the people around you is a quality I admire and still struggle with. It was supposed to open our eyes and make it easier to slip into different characters I suppose, maybe even empathize. But I wish I could just stop measuring people around me and stop being petty that way, comparing, judging. I guess realizing that I'm doing it is a good first step. Let's see how long it takes me to take another.

I still sometimes feel like I need to make decisions based on other peoples needs. Or at least what I perceive their needs are. I wish for a clear mind that reminds me that only I matter in my life decisions and that I can always ask someone if they feel hurt by my actions instead of assuming too much beforehand. Feeling trapped in my own head based on unspoken words is the worst feeling. So I take a deep breath and have a look at what I want. And then I pursue it. Should be that easy, right?

Whenever I find a new thing that fascinates me, I go all in. I lose myself completely in its vastness and it consumes my every waking second and sometimes even my dreams. I have trouble thinking about or concentrating on anything else and my surroundings have to suffer along with me because I am unable to talk about anything else. When was the last time you spend that much of your focus on just one thing?

As always when I set myself a project like this 100-day-challenge, I am amazing at distracting myself. I normally go rogue almost immediately and try to get around my set plans. I am actually amused I lasted this long without a side project. But this December, on top of my ongoing challenge, I decided to get better at portrait drawing. I'm drawing one full portrait each day for the whole of December on top of my 100 abstracts challenge. And I can't even tell you why I'm doing this to myself? I can't seem to focus on only one project at a time. Maybe I get bored too easily. Maybe I'm afraid I'm not good enough if I give it my 100% and rather diffuse my attention and then have the excuse to say, "Yeah, I was doing x,y,z... at the side anyway, so it's all good". In any case, I'm really good at keeping myself busy. Am I the only one? Where do you divert your attention?

I have so many excuses to not do the things I want because of x, y, z. But all that’s stopping me is myself. I just learned recently that I am already ready now. But somebody else had to tell me that. I couldn't see that for myself.
So I'm telling you now:
- So are you. -
What thing have you been putting off because you wanted to wait for circumstances or yourself to be perfect?
I say: Go for it now. Today.
Stop making excuses 💙

Is it better to keep working on a thing that doesn't respond or start anew to create something different? When does persistence become thickheadedness and stupidity? When is it "starting a new adventure" and not "giving up". Does it solely depend on the narrator's perspective?

November can be a tough month for many to go through. I know I suffer each year and my mood takes a nosedive every time. I'm daydreaming of warm places, beaches and learning how to surf to keep me sane. Of what I would love to do with my life if I had more money than I could spend, and then I plan on how to accomplish exactly that. Who'll visit me in my loft in Seoul or ride the attractions in Disneyland Tokyo with me? Are you game for a trip to Sydney and get a studio to paint for months on end near a beach while the rest of the world is slowly getting snowed in?

I don't know if I should be concerned or not, but the older I get the less important it is for me what society deems acceptable behavior. I grew up being "a good girl" and I still struggle with the desire to maintain that title at times, but the more I live the less I care it seems. I hope I can free myself out of this self-imposed prison in the foreseeable future completely. If you managed to do it, leave me a note. I could use a hint or two.

I tend to read a lot of books around the "achieving your dreams" variety and one of my favorites tends to lay all our unrealized dreams at the doorstep of our own clutter. Physical clutter, emotional clutter. Same difference. The drawer you can't close because it is your designated "miscellaneous" one where every spare item you can't categorize finds an eternal resting place or the one embarrassing memory you are still beating yourself up over years later that keeps you from finding sleep. If we can just slowly realize that those things are in fact holding us back from achieving our grandest dreams and start to let go of those tenderly and rigorously... What new opportunities we might find when we release what serves us no longer. What are you throwing out today?

I have no ___

I could have all of these things if I lowered my standards.
I will not lower my standards.
I’d rather go without. Is that hubris?

Because we are halfway there in the challenge, I've made a diptych. This means you'll get these two pieces for the price of one as a special celebration. First come, first serve.
Sometimes you just need to enjoy life for life's sake. Wear your favorite earrings at home. Sip plain water from your fanciest glass. Put on your cheekiest underwear for no one else's gaze but your own. A piece of art is in that regard a gift to yourself. To celebrate a milestone passed or honor your own attempts at adulting this year. Like a gold star, you can give yourself for homework well done. And then you can lean back, look at the remaining weeks this year has to offer and think:
"Very fine. Very fine indeed.".

Do you know that feeling you have upon meeting an intriguing stranger? Some people just have that aura that pulls me in and I want to know more about them. Be it on the subway, walking past me in a crowd or when they browse the book aisle just right next to mine.
The incessant urge to talk to them fills me and most times I walk over and find an excuse to start a conversation. But what if circumstances don't permit it? When I am already running late or they're on the escalator running in the opposite direction of mine? What about those I never got the chance to meet? Do you do that too? Talking to strangers, meeting new people you are intrigued by? Or did someone approach you once? What did it feel like? Did you ever regret taking that first step? Share your most memorable story with me!

This is a continuation of yesterdays train of thought. I don't like being labeled even though I like things organized.
Are you as sick of all the personality tests and boxes you don't fit into as I am? Especially the debate about Introverts vs. Extroverts leaves me yawning at this point. What if you just say yes to both? Or "it depends"?
Why we have the urge to label and dissect every minute detail just to feel order in this absolute endless universe we live in escapes me. If it helps you to know you gain energy from being by yourself for periods of time, that is lovely and more power to you. But we shouldn't need permission to feel good about taking time for ourselves that way is what I'm saying. And also, can you even remember the last "personality" test you took and do you think it seriously impacted your life in the grand scheme of things? I get that most are for fun and not self-reflection. But I could honestly list you 100 other things I would rather do then take one more useless test on the internet just to "relax".

Sometimes I feel like someone forgot to tell me some really important things. Like, what being an adult actually means. I feel like I'm stumbling along, nearly avoiding crash landings by sheer luck while everyone else has it figured out or at least pretends that they know what they're doing? There are so many things I still don't know how they work, how I am supposed to handle them or don't know how to reach what is expected of me at this age? Or did the world shift so profoundly that my generation is fumbling along not having any of the things that generations before us saw as normal? There is a disconnect between what I thought my life looked like at this point and what it actually is. Hell. There is a disconnect between what I want my life to be and what I actually live in right now. A rather big one. And I have no idea how to connect point A and B. And everyone I'm asking, from family, friends, to mentors and mutuals on the internet. They all think they have an answer, but nothing works for me? I know I am not stupid, nor lazy. I am working on my dreams every single day to the point of burn out (I've gotten better though, I think) and I can't seem to reach even the tiniest bit of my dream life. I want to have something figured out for once. I want to be sure that my next step gets me closer to my dreams.
How about you? Has resignation already set in? Have you settled? Or are you still struggling, treading water and screaming at the top of your lungs?

...Is something I tend to say often whenever I lose my train of thought or struggle for too long to find the right word. My mind is a jumble of German and English phrases and now I'm dumping Korean into the mix as well? I love, love, LOVE learning Korean and being able to speak in multiple languages soon (my school french never did count I'm afraid) gives me goosebumps. But sometimes you get confused, sentence structures don't make sense in the language you are speaking them in and some things just can't be translated one to one no matter how hard you try. So I give myself permission to get things wrong and not beating myself up for stopping to talk in the middle of a sentence to regroup and organize my thoughts.
I want to be able to hold a decent conversation by the time I travel to Seoul in 2019 and I'll only achieve that goal if I allow myself to make mistakes and practice, practice, practice. So I will be talking to myself a lot, cramming every day and trying to meet my vocabulary goal each week.
Nevermind me.
Nevermind.

Can you ask for help? Because I know I'm really good at helping people. I don't hesitate if someone needs me and I'll forego my own needs in order to support others more often than not. But I can't remember for the life of me when I asked for help last. It feels icky, I don't want to bother the people around me and my problems aren't that big or important, I say to myself.
They probably can't help me anyway.
Do you recognize yourself? See how incredibly stupid this sounds written out? Please do ask for help. Even if you think they can't help, just having someone listening can be incredible to solve problems. Even just stating a problem out loud, explaining it to someone else gets your brain in a state where you can easily recognize patterns and solutions.
I'm learning to get better at this and also to set healthy boundaries for those who seek out my help.
We'll get there.

Do you like talking about money? Do you think it‘s unpolite or even rude to talk about money? Were you taught this is a subject best left alone, especially in public and only whispered about behind closed doors? You know I’m an ardent believer in working on my money mindset and think that especially females could benefit from some serious work in that particular area. If you feel like you never “have enough money”, it comes down to that deep down, you never “feel like you ARE enough, work enough, do enough...”. You feel unworthy and repell money with that mindset. At least that’s how I see it and experience it. That’s why I love wearing things that look or are expensive. Why I invest in an YSL lipstick and wear the jewellery my grandmothers gave me. I tend to, at any given moment, use the best shampoo I can find or only wear clothes I love (especially underwear. Only wear underwear that makes you feel like a million bucks!). I use all the test packages you get at beauty counters and never save the “best” for a special occassion but use it up immediately! If you FEEL expensive, you have a complete different posture and behave differently, too! Don’t believe me? Try it! Get a make over at the next beauty counter, wear your favorite undies, shoes, little black dress and get your hair blown out if you are extra daring! See what happens to you. How people around you treat you and how you FEEL. Manifesting is all about how you FEEL. You can’t manifest from a place of lack. Give it a go and tell me how it went 💋

What does your ideal life look like? What would your like to have when you “grow up”? When do you know you are “there”? Are you taking tiny steps towards your goals every single day? Do you have a clear vision or is everything a little hazy? What do you do once you’ve reached your dream life? What comes next? What do you do when it’s not all that it’s cracked up to be? What if you get bored? Give me three things you are doing today in order to reach your dreams! Today’s micro steps for me are: 1. Finishing my Korean homework, 2. I’m going to boulder for the first time today and 3. I ate a really healthy breakfast. My big goals are living and working in Seoul in 2019, learning new things that scare me while strengthening my body and reaching my next goal weight for a healthy body. But I can’t do that in one day. So I have to break those goals down into tiny, manageable steps and let my dreams not overwhelm me.

I can’t right now because I’ve been screaming my head off for the last two days (I had no idea I could go into fangirl mode so hard) but if I have learned anything in my life so far then it is to use your voice despite fearing what others might think of you. When you feel uncomfortable. Say so. When you think something is wrong. Speak up. In my teens and early twenties I tried to please everybody and rather stayed quiet then say something wrong. Nowadays I am so loud I don’t even know anymore what happened to that shy and awkward girl. Finding self love and self acceptance has to play a huge part in this naturally. Being confronted over and over again with situations where I wished I would have spoken up contributed as well. I never want to stay quiet again. I will speak my mind. I will offend people and I will be true to myself. Speak yourself.

This questions seems to split the masses. Do you think you, everything you are, your being as a whole, stems solely from your genetic heritage or does the environment you grow up in has the stronger influence in what makes you the person you are? For me it comes down to whether I think I have a choice in the creation of my life or if everything is pre-destined. I quite like having a choice. I also know a lot of what I experience everyday and subsequently forms my perception of the world originates in what was given to me at birth. For me it‘s never been a question of one over the other and more like a „let‘s play to the strength of both“. How do you feel about what ultimately made you the person you are today? Are you the sum of your cells or your environment? And which thought makes you more uncomfortable?

Gurl. Stop beating yourself up and learn how to love yourself. You can‘t distinguish between giving the best and giving everything until you can‘t function anymore. Giving your best means also taking care of your health. Body and mind. Giving everything for just one single cause or project is stupid and why injuries and breakdowns happen. So. Start some self love and self care pretty please. Talk nicely to yourself. S E L F C O M P A S S I O N 🙌 repeat after me. What are u feeling bad for? Does it help with anything? No? So stop. You are doing the best you can at any given moment. Trust yourself. Be nice to yourself. I happen to like you.

Every time you step outside your comfort zone and try new things, you will grow exponentially even though you might not realize it. But change can be scary and it might fill you with so much fear of failure and self doubt that you might never even attempt the jump into something even better. I might look like I know what I am doing but most of the time I just listen to my gut and go with what feels right. If I want to try something new I’ll just go for it and don’t judge while learning, while creating. The assessment might come after and I can say if it either worked or not. But maybe the assessment isn’t even our job. I love Andy Warhol for saying: “Don't think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it's good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.” That’s what I am trying to live by and what gave me the courage to start in on this project of 100 paintings in 100 days. What does it give you the courage to do?

This is my first monochrome painting for this challenge. Full of blues and subtle greens. This might make some people moody, but it fills me with a sense of security, hence the title. Sure. You could just concentrate on the negative OR you take a conscious effort and focus on the positive things in your life that surround you. Whenever I find myself complaining too much I give myself the task to come up with 5 things I am grateful for right now. Can you do that, too?

💙100 paintings in 100 days challenge💙
3/100 - “Bayou” 🐊 - These colors transport me right to the swampy wilderness I only know through movies. The scene in Interview with a Vampire for example where they get rid of Lestat‘s body in the middle of the night. Or the less gruesome Disney depiction in Princess and the Frog where everyone is singing and dancing along with the fireflies. I know those two scenes are vastly different. But this painting feels like a mix of the two for me

Getting to that point is the tough part, though.

I came to a point where I was tired but there is still paint on my palette and I don't want to waste that. So I keep painting and painting. People tell me all the time my paintings look either flowery to them, like petals drifting in the wind, or like underwater scenery. I never intentionally force either theme, but while painting this one, the underwater world emerged.
So I just roll with it and love the process of adding tiny specks of color that could be a swarm of colorful fish in the deep sea. So long story short. I love this painting as much as I loved the process!

As lovely as the idea of painting daily is, I realized that painting 4-6 paintings in one day is much more manageable for me

She is not afraid of hard work and I adore her mother, too, who is so kind and able to sew the most amazing dresses for little princesses.
What makes me admire her most, though, is: Tiana just doesn't accept no for an answer and always finds a way!
That's why she gets the words:
- Problem-Solver. Determined. Ambitious. -

I set myself a challenge to paint 30 paintings in 30 days and this is Day 9.
With this one I allowed myself to create something ugly. Unrestrained in a way. It is very freeing, the moment you allow yourself to just create. No matter the outcome.
- Free. Unrestrained. Wild. -

Of course, I had to try my hands on the little mermaid. Come on, you knew it! Just look at all my mermaid puns.
My chosen words for her are:
- Curious. Brave. Melody. -

The other day, just when I started to paint, there was a power outage in my area. I stood in the dark with a palette full of freshly squeezed paint and colors in my head that wanted to be brought out on paper.
So I went and got some candles, as well as a selfie light (yes, that's a thing and I love it) and started to work with the little illumination I had. After several hours when the lights came back on I had painted 7 new pieces which now make up my new "Blackout collection".
Also new in this series, I use shimmering interference paints that give you different impressions depending on the angles you view the artwork from.
My three words for this painting are:
- Energetic. Invigorating. Buzz. -

I set myself a challenge to paint 30 paintings in 30 days and this is Day 18.
Today is a calm day.
Even though I have a lot on my to-do list I decided to go slow.
It's a much needed break and it's mirrored in today's painting "Pond"
- Serene. Foliage. Pondering. -

You know that moment when you look at someone and your heart stops beating? And then you want to impress them and you open your mouth, but all that tumbles out is embarrassing, to say the least, and all you can think is
"Stop. Talking. Now!"?
Yeah. Welcome to the Deep Blush...

Ever walked home on a starry night, just to stop and stare at the deep vastness above you, getting lost in the glittering universe?

Every painting will get three words in way of description:
- Calm. Royal. Oppinionated. -
I would love for this to be part of the Princess inspired series, but it doesn't quite match anyone. I still really like it, though.

Day 6 Painting 6
Cherry Blossom season in Seoul is beautiful, yet short. It seems like overnight, spring decided to bless the streets and the rose-colored petals sprang up all over the city. Couples wandering under the trees, cute pictures being taken, picnics and hikes to famous cherry blossom spots arranged... And all with a small urgency. With a wistfulness attached. For as beautiful and magical as this sight is, it is ephemeral. Once they bloom, cherry blossoms have a short lifespan and it is cut even shorter should heavy rain approach. I’m writing this to the sound of the pitter-patter of raindrops hitting the streets. The smell of petrichor hangs heavy in the air and everything appears hazy. When I look up towards the mountains where cherry blossom trees earlier lined the horizon, there is nothing left of that soft color now. All washed away. All gone. As fast as it came.
